Sumner County Criminal Court Judges Jane Wheatcraft and James Hunter and District Attorney General Ray Whitley established the Sumner County Anti-Drug Coalition in 2006. On a daily basis they dealt with adults in the community who had been arrested for some type of crime that involved the use of alcohol and drugs. The magnitude of the problem was overwhelming. They knew that substance abuse was a community problem and the only way to effectively address the issue would be to bring all sectors of the community together.
Since 2006, the coalition has grown and developed strong community roots. We are currently funded primarily by the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services' Established Coalition Block Grant and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) as part of the Drug Free Communities Support Program.
