Streamlined Embedded Technologies, LLC. (SET) is a new technology company that been spun out from the Maryland DSPCAD Research Group (DSPCAD Group) of the University of Maryland Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Institute for Advanced Computer Studies in College Park, MD, and launched in collaboration with the Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute. Research in the DSPCAD Group is of great interest to industry, and has been supported by leading companies, including Agilent Technologies, National Instruments, Northrop Grumman, the Semiconductor Research Corporation, and Texas Instruments. SET is part of the highly selective National Science Foundation (NSF) Innovation Corps program, which is meant to commercialize some of the most promising NSF-funded research innovations.
SET provides optimized hardware (sensor node boards) and middleware that enable development of advanced sensor networks, including wired and wireless sensor networks across the domains of environmental monitoring, video networks, surveillance, defense, and building automation. SET's technology enables development of more energy efficient sensor networks, and seamless integration of sensor interfaces and software subsystems so that complex networks can be deployed and maintained with lower cost and higher reliability.
SET's co-designed sensor node hardware and middleware is developed and optimized using proprietary dataflow-based design technology, which builds on extensive research in the DSPCAD Group. Dataflow is a graphical formalism that provides a unified framework for design and implementation signal processing applications, including applications for processing signals associated with wireless communication, images, video streams, and arbitrary kinds devices for sensing and monitoring.
SET's unique dataflow-based approach allows SET to provide solutions that deliver enhanced energy efficiency and robustness under given constraints on performance, reliability and security. The approach also enables seamless integration with a wide variety of sensors, actuators, and communication protocols. This allows network developers to build the most strategic mix of components, thereby providing the most cost-effective and reliable solutions for the desired application features.
