Our mission is to showcase African American Achievements while providing interesting and exciting social news in a magazine format. It is important to promote our achievements and show how valuable we are to society in a marketplace that still ignores positive news and social events in the African American Community.
"Social Sightings" is a photo-journalistic archive of African American achievements and social events. We highlight professionals who are making a difference and promote organizations that are working toward positive social change.
Our page shows that the Black Community is peopled with judges, doctors, CEOs, attorneys, entrepreneurs and professionals of all stripes that are rarely seen in the media: it is visual proof that the "Huxtables" do exist.
"Social Sightings" offsets the sensationalism that usually surrounds news from the Black Community. "Social Sightings" features outstanding role models in our community. We hope to motivate children to focus on their education and to get involved in their community.
"Social Sightings" shows that the thirst for social interaction and inclusiveness can be found other than through gang membership by spotlighting sororities, fraternities, civic and social clubs.
"Social Sightings" posits the notion that education is valuable and leads to material gain as well as being the major tool with which to re-build the Black community. It is our civic duty to accentuate a more positive image.
