Company Summary

The Health Sciences Library (HSL) of New York Medical College (NYMC) continues to expand our hours, improve our resources and our services. This is a quick overview of what's happened recently with a view forward.

In July 2011 the staff updated our three year strategic plan (http://library.nymc.edu/Information/gob1114.cfm), to move our priorities forward through 2014, and to align our objectives to the College's strategic initiatives in Building a Future on the Excellence of the Past. On August 11, 2011 library staff and key faculty and academic leadership met at the Alumni Center to confirm the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges facing the HSL. As a result, three new priorities were added: research support, translational medicine, and outreach to our affiliates. The following overarching priorities have become part of our implementation plans for 2012:

1. Effectively communicate with all of our users;
2. Integrate electronic content;
3. Expand resources and find funding to provide them;
4. Expand outreach to our users and our community;
5. Market our capabilities to support the academic infrastructure;
6. Renovate our spaces to provide better study rooms and research support
7. Teach our information competencies;
8. Create a repository to support NYMC archives, faculty publications, theses and posters;
9. Develop embedded support for translational medicine;
10. Re-design the library's website;
11. Simplify library access.
