Who am I? I am Ken Mulvihill. I have over 30 years experience in Supply Chain Management working with manufacturing, construction and government agencies throughout the Rocky Mountain West. With extensive involvement in sales, management, and operations I start with understanding your problem at the business level. Then, I can translate the business problem into getting the right dataset to analyze. Communication is important. You won't be inundated with techno garble. I am able to communicate effectively with non-experts in the field. Keep your user involved Over time I saw a recurring problem: Computer systems were not written with the end user in mind. The majority of business systems seem to be designed with management reporting as the end product. Although important, it is the person at their desk for eight hours every day that makes the reports possible. Why make the user's job so hard? Because the end user was either not part of the design process at all or was consulted only to fine-tune the interface. Custom vs. Off-the-Shelf Companies are not looking for a "cookie-cutter" software package. They would rather not completely redesign their business process to accommodate a new system. "For many users, a smaller, less feature rich, but more robust application that remains stable over time would be a better solution." (Software Craftsmanship, Pete McBreen, Addison-Wesley) Often a custom solution tailored specifically for your needs is the best answer for your business.. Database Jargon Practical foundation in the design, implementation and management of relational databases. Full normalization of records to industry standard Third Normal Form (3NF). Microsoft Access 2007 and 2010 for Rapid Application Development (RAD) and prototyping. SQL Server connectivity. C# and VB programing skills. A craftsman's attention to detail I am also a musician and a guitar builder. The craftsmanship and attention to detail that I apply to building a quality musical instrument is the same treatment that I give to building database applications.
