About Us Military By Owner History Military By Owner.com was the result of a conversation my father and I had over Christmas, 1999. I was commenting that a disadvantage of constantly moving in the military was the difficulty in building equity in a home due to the fees associated with selling in such a compressed ownership period. We discussed base housing, renting, and ownership as an option, but agreed that owning a home even for a short period of time was what we desired. He asked me if the military had a program to link-up service members selling or hunting for a home. We surfed the web and found dozens of "for sale by owner" web sites. Many were nationwide, while others emphasized a particular region. What we didn't find was a site that had the focus we thought was needed to support the military community.So in January of 2000 we drove to our local Best Buy and bought a copy of Microsoft FrontPage. By the end of that weekend we had a rough outline of the site built and ready to publish online. The company maintained steady growth each year with a lot of positive feedback. In 2005 a new site design was launched with a more robust database to support site growth. In 2006, the company incorporated as Military By Owner Advertising, Inc. and moved to new corporate offices in Fredericksburg, Virginia.Over the years we have grown the Military By Owner family to include a dozen or so co-workers. We currently are spread across the country and the globe with hard charging "friendly" customer service agents in California, Montana (Malmstrom AFB), Arizona (MCAS Yuma), Okinawa, Virginia (MCB Quantico/Pentagon), Florida, and North Dakota (Minot AFB). We also have a cadre of teenagers that help ship out yard signs and brochures.In 2009, Military By Owner launched PCS-Lodging.com. PCS-Lodging was created to help families find lodging or hotels near our military bases during a house hunting trip or the actual PCS move.Mission Military By Owner.com will provide a comprehensive low cost means for military members and their families to advertise on the world wide web. The service will be provided throughout the entire year and will encompass all locations where military members may be stationed to include overseas assignments. We will leverage a powerful existing network. That network encompasses former and present military service members, their families, and the communities that support them. By use of the internet and the world wide web we will "link-up" buyers and sellers of homes along with landlords and prospective tenants. We will provide this service at a reasonable price with an emphasis on quality and dependability.
