Merritt Precision Technologies, Inc. (MPTI) has positioned itself to meet or exceed all of your rapid prototyping and machining needs. This is accomplished through the use of two large 5-axis Cartesian milling machines, two of the largest on the East Coast. Our technical staff has established the benchmark for high precision, top-quality masters, molds, and patterns for the industries they serve. The principals have been involved in robotic machining of masters and molds for the past nineteen years, and led the industry in methods and procedures. These methods have been further refined and improved over the past several years to provide the best quality products in the tooling industry.
Merritt Precision has two large gantry robots. The work envelope of the first robot's major axes is 65 feet long, 20 feet wide and 10 feet high. The second is 45 feet long, 20 feet wide and 9 feet high. Each machine has a five axis degree-of-freedom (pitch and yaw) wrist. The variable high-speed spindle (18HP up to 20,000rpm) has a pneumatic quick change collet, which allows quick change of the cutting and profiling tools. The mill can operate in both a 3-axis cutting (for high-speed material removal) and 5-axis contouring (for exact surface profiles). Large parts of virtual any size can be machined. Process algorithms allow easy quick repositioning and surveying. The machines are also capable of reverse engineering with the use of non contact laser surveying and point contact surveying using a Renishaw probe.
MPTI has an extensive library of state-of-the-art CAD/CAM packages (including Unigraphics NX6 and RHINO) which allow customers to send CAD models electronically via e-mail in numerous formats (Parasolid, IGES, STEP). We evaluate and provide feedback and recommendations based on draft analysis fixture recommendation and the end users tooling requirements. Multiple tool paths are developed for each part, and validated before machining. Once the parts are completed, the files are removed from our computers to maintain the proprietary nature of each customer's design.
