hope Mining is a mining company that claims are 61 unpatented federal claims comprising 1390 acres
and 16 state claims of 640 acres. One of the federal claims dates back to 1895.
All the claims are solely owned by HMC and their titles are free and clear of liens
and encumbrances according to HMC’s president. Of the federal claims 42 have
been surveyed as part of a patent application. Approximately 750 acres are in the
patent application, but 1000 acres are land surveyed. The Clinton Administration
imposed the patenting moratorium and the Bush Administration has not
rescinded it. The federal claims are administered by the Chugach National Forest
of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The state claims are administered by the
Alaska Department of Natural Resources.
