Each year more than 2,000 East San Fernando Valley residents with mental illnesses are welcomed at Hillview Mental Health Center. Clients passing through our gateway range from people with chronic mental illness, including substance dependency, and are at risk of homelessness to those in recovery who need assistance with continuing medication and therapeutic support. We help all our clients reach their potentials to secure their health and take control of their lives.

Funded under contracts with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, Hillview serves an area with an unusually high population of people who are under-employed or unemployed, have poor housing, lack healthcare insurance, and suffer from untreated medical and mental health problems. In all of Los Angeles County, the East San Fernando Valley has the largest population of people with the fewest economic resources.

Since our founding in 1966, we have shaped our programs to address the economic and social realities of our communities. We have always emphasized preventive outpatient care as an alternative to institutionalization. In our early years, our work in rehabilitation and recovery was hailed as innovative. Today, we are enthusiastic as ever about the success of our skills and our programs.

The Hillview team - more than 120 people who care deeply about helping people achieve better mental health - includes psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, psychiatrists, nurses, mental health rehabilitation specialists and counselors, personal service coordinators, and other supportive services staff. Together, we create a wide network of support. We help clients gain access to community services that include health care, cultural and recreational resources, and public benefits. We enable them to prepare for work or school, to live in stable housing and to lead more productive and enjoyable lives.
