Global Marine Exploration, Inc. (GME), a C Corp., was formed in December of 2011 in the state of Delaware for the purpose of international shipwreck discovery and salvage.
The principals of GME were previously the founders and owners of a Dominican Company named Anchor Research & Salvage, S.R.L. (ARS) which was formed in 2009. ARS obtained a large lease area from the Dominican government in October of 2010 for purposes of shipwreck salvage and recovery.
The original business model of ARS, following the common practice of private companies within the industry, was going to be providing treasure and artifacts to its principals and investors as discoveries were made and treasure recovered.
Since the terms of the contract with the Dominican government precludes the sale of recovered artifacts within the Dominican Republic, the need for a U.S. company to take over this responsibility was mandatory and an important reason for the creation of GME Further, in order to seek opportunities in other parts of the world it was necessary to create a new U.S. company to maintain control of a world-wide organization and the individual companies that will need to be formed in each country, including the existing Dominican company, ARS.
The decision was made to change the traditional business model, in part due to the difficulty of dividing and selling artifacts and treasure among a large number of investors with different ownership percentages and desires.
