Gamma Ventures, Inc. is dedicated to advancing global wind turbine technology through a unique two-bladed concept designed to produce superior efficiency, reduced maintenance, and increased blade life. The technology was developed by an international team of engineers under a research and development contract funded by the Italian government. ''Gamma'' is an acronym for the Italian, ''Advanced Multi-megawatt Wind Generator.''
Gamma Ventures, Inc. was organized as a collaborative effort of a handful of entities, for the purpose of purchasing the two large turbine generators and associated technical assets from the Italians, and was financed as an SEC ''Regulation D'' corporation. Among the company's founders, Glidden S. Doman and Silvestro Caruso were both involved with the original Gamma project in Italy and remain active today.
As Gamma Ventures, Inc. is not seeking to become a manufacturer of turbines nor a wind farm operator, it has recently partnered with Condor Wind Energy, Ltd. ''Condor'' was incorporated in England for the purpose of promoting and manufacturing the Gamma wind turbine technology.
Even at first glance, the large Gamma turbines are distinctive because their two-bladed rotors contrast with the industry's standard use of the classic Danish three-bladed concept. More important, however, are Gamma's unique features of power control, rotor articulation and structural damping. These make Gamma turbines highly efficient, while enabling very long fatigue life and protection against both gearbox and generator failures, which have been epidemic in the industry.
The Gamma turbines are rated with a capacity of 2 megawatts. Based on leadership experience with turbines as large as 4 megawatts, the company team believes that the 60 meter diameter of the present Gamma design is an excellent choice for economic performance for land use. Larger machines are certainly reasonable, however, and Condor anticipates that larger turbines will be built for off-shore applications.
