Our Mission
EDI aims to position itself as a global leader in advanced, high-efficiency PHEV and CVT solutions, by providing vehicle developers, manufacturers, and suppliers with highly innovative products, services, and technologies, thereby enabling them to build the most efficient and affordable HEV, PHEV, and EVs available in the market.
Overview
In response to the global demand for the electrification of vehicles of all types, Efficient Drivetrains, Inc. (EDI) is commercializing highly unique and advanced hybrid electric vehicle technologies for use in Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) worldwide. EDI develops complete drivetrain solutions and offers critical electrical and mechanical components, controllers and control software, and the related technical services. In addition, EDI has also developed technology and designs for new types of continuously variable transmissions (CVT) which are the most efficient and largest capacity transmissions of their type in the industry today. EDI's CVTs are ideal for many transportation and industrial applications.
EDI's hybrid electric drivetrain systems and technologies provide significant cost and efficiency advantages by using both parallel and series drivetrain architectures, unique components, and proprietary control software and algorithms. The company's products have direct applications in PHEV vehicles, Hybrids, and Electric Vehicles (EVs), across nearly all platforms classes and configurations including light, medium, and heavy-duty market opportunities.
The company's closely related CVT products can also be used in conventional as well as fully electric, or hybrid electric vehicles and provide incremental improvements in fuel economy, electric drivetrain performance, reduced CO2 emissions, and other vehicle benefits. Because EDI's CVTs are among the largest torque capacity and highest efficiency transmissions available they also match well with many industrial applications.
Our Technology
EDI's technology includes a significant array of hybrid and plug-in electric hybrid vehicle control systems and algorithms, architectures, continuously variable transmission designs and controls, and other critical systems and components required to design and manufacture parallel and series hybrid vehicles. Many of EDI's key designs and products are protected by U.S. and international patents.
EDI continues to evolve both its hybrid/electric drivetrain and CVT technologies and to create new innovations on an on-going basis as part of commercial vehicle development projects with customers and ongoing research and development programs as part of the company's product roadmap.
Our Business
Incorporated as a Delaware corporation in April 2006 and headquartered in San Jose, Ca., Efficient Drivetrains is privately held and is providing Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) and Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) solutions to the worldwide automotive industry. EDI's customers located in both the U.S. and China span from the Global 100 to medium and small/startup companies.
EDI collaborates with its customers including vehicle OEMs, suppliers, and operators to develop drivetrain or CVT solutions which are optimized for their vehicle performance and market requirements and then provides key products including hardware and software for the production ramp of those vehicles. EDI also licenses some of its designs to established tier 1 suppliers when required to meet customer supply chain preferences.
EDI's elite workforce includes an ideal combination of automotive industry and Silicon Valley professionals with significant backgrounds and prior work histories.
EDI has also established a wholly owned foreign entity (WOFE) in Wuxi China to support business in that geography.
Our Heritage
The company's technology originates from several generations of innovative and award winning vehicles that were constructed as part of University, government, U.S. Department of Energy (USDOE), and various automotive industry-funded projects at the University of California Davis by Professor Andy Frank and other major industry partners. In addition to its own intellectual property, EDI also has an exclusive license for the entire UC Davis patent portfolio related to hybrid electric vehicles and CVTs.
Our Offices
EDI's offices and personnel are located in Silicon Valley and Dixon in California, in Denver Colorado, and Wuxi, China. EDI also maintains partnerships with business development and product distribution partners located in Canada and China.
