Through mentoring and the Word of the Lord, Cross in the City works with at-risk youth so they may become the next leaders in their community. Cross in the City (CITC) is a faith-based non-profit outreach to gang-involved, and gang associated youth. Over 2000 youth and their families receive services from CITC on a yearly basis. Rev. James R. Leslie: Has 20 years' experience working with delinquent youth and families in crisis. He beliefs in a Christian following that is lead of the Holy Spirit. He served for six years in Chicago working with gang members, mentoring and working with their families. He founded Cross in the City in 1997 when he realized that some of the problems he saw in Chicago where starting to appear in the Houston area. He graduated from Texas A&M with a B.S. in Psychology, Glory Ministries Bible College with a B.A. in Biblical Studies, and a M.A. in Studies of the Future from University of Houston, Clear Lake. He is married with 3 children.Cross in the City provides mentoring and discipleship for the children who need us most. This includes those living in single parent homes, growing up in poverty and those coping with parental incarceration. In many cases the children are involved in the juvenile justice system. We offer great matches between an adult and a child. CITC works with ages 12 through 18, with role models in one-to-one relationships.Counseling at Cross in the City provides a safe, nurturing and non-judgmental environment for all who come through our doors. We value each person, in a professional and compassionate way. We walk with those who are hurting. We are partners in personal, spiritual, and relational growth.
