We are a prepackaged software mail-house. We sell a 3-dimensional (3D) Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software application, along with its documentation. I researched and developed (R&D'ed) it from scratch using my knowledge of ray-tracing methodology and the C programming language. I was taught this school of thought at UMass/Amherst in the late 1980s. It is used for mathematically modeling re-usable, graphical, hierarchical, objects/sub-objects. The object transformation process (rotate, scale, shear, and translate) mathematics is done for you by the computer: you just plug in the values. There are 11 primitives--sphere, plane, square, cylinder, cone, cube, tetrahedron, octahedron, dodecahedron, icosahedron, and torus. When these primitives undergo transformations they become simple objects. One of TheRayTracer's main features is taking the simple objects one step further by building compound objects via pure Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG) with the Boolean operations of union, intersection, and difference. Use CSG for building compound objects from a pool of 10 primitives (n/i plane) which themselves first transform into simple objects and subsequently may become part of a reusable compound object/sub-object. Your computer scenes can be a mixture of simple and compound objects. Also, It features breakthrough technology for simple and compound transparent objects. The end result has all the aesthetics of shapes, color, lighting, and shadows for rendering an overall photorealistic scene or prototype.
It has an interactive, textual user-interface (TUI) with a fast ray-tracing engine; and, it generates bitmaps as color output. I disruptively refer to the driving mechanism of the graphics engine as a software laser engine-device (SLED) rather than the textbooks' "camera" because of the directionality of the emanating rays for the two distinct concepts. The camera has inward rays for "fast" receiving /recording, and the SLED has outward rays for "slow" locating/detecting. The "synthetic camera" is an oxymoron for ray-tracing software.
