Founded in 1975 in support of certified medical education for physicians, the Alliance expanded its scope in 2010 to include health care-related continuing education and continuing professional development. Membership is now open to any individual involved in continuing education and professional development for all health care professions. Through inclusive, collaborative, and inter-professional efforts, the Alliance acts to close health care performance gaps and improve quality in patient care and in clinical outcomes.

The Alliance is creating new programs, products and services to reach an expanded membership base, introduce a broader focus, and to place a greater emphasis on improving educational and health care outcomes. Through visionary and proactive leadership, the Alliance seeks to align its activities with the emerging healthcare environment and to model innovative leadership to shape the future of health care.
